In The Lap Of The Gods (2020)
We like to think we have control over our lives, that we create our own identity. But there are those, in the shadows under the clouds, who pull our invisible strings without us knowing. Yet these gods in turn have their own strings pulled from amongst the shadows further above, still. But the gods manipulating the strings don’t like it when you pull back.
Advertising guru John Farmer wakes to the cries of his newborn baby. But far from being next to his wife at home, he is back at university, some years previously. Faced with the possibility his wife Freya and baby Henry are a delusion, or that he has actually been cast back into his past, he struggles with a dual outlook and mental turmoil. When he finally meets his future wife, he finds she is stronger than he could have imagined, possessing an essence of the ancient gods that others want to steal for their own gain. With assistance from folklore, theatre, and the gods, the young couple must fight within their subconscious, and ultimately encounter the primordial goddess Nyx, loss meaning likely death for Freya and their baby never being born.
A story of memory, mental health, identity, and sacrifice, In The Lap Of The Gods brings together past memory, future hope, dream, and reality.
